Speculation is growing that rock superstars U2 could be playing twice in Vienna next year. The rumours were sparked after U2 front man Bono said at the end of the band’s performance in Zagreb on Sunday: "And to all visitors from Austria: we’ll come to you next time!"

Now fans believe the Irish band may perform twice at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium – the venue for AC/DC and Bruce Springsteen gigs earlier this year – in summer 2010.

U2 are currently touring Europe which a spectacular 7.5-million-Euro stage which has a huge 360-degree video screen as its centrepiece. The band’s set list not only features their biggest hits but also cover versions of songs like "Rock the Casbah" (The Clash) or "Blackbird" (The Beatles).

Media reports earlier this year claimed last weekend’s international Jehovah’s Witnesses congress at the venue had been at the same time as band’s preferred dates. Around 40,000 people attended the religious group’s two-day event which featured a mass baptism.

U2’s 2005 Vienna concert was sold out within minutes.
